In Daoist philosophy, we each have five spirits within us called the Hun, Shen, Yi, Po and Zhi. Your Hun determines your identity and purpose in life. When your Hun is out of balance, you feel depressed, stuck in a rut, unfulfilled or aimless. When your Hun is healthy, you live in a way that is true to yourself and you move naturally towards your destiny.
Here is a 10-minute meditation that nourishes the Hun: Close your eyes and take five slow, deep breaths. Imagine that you are standing high on a mountaintop, looking down at your life stretching before you. Look around and see all the parts of your life in the landscape – your family and friends, your work, your fears and hopes. Imagine a road winding through the landscape towards a beautiful, bright horizon. Now step onto the road. Your journey has begun.
