How to eat

Spring is a topsy turvy time of year. Everything changes rapidly – cold one moment, hot the next, calm in the morning and windy by midday. This means that your body has to work extra hard to maintain its equillibrium.

You can help it out by eating three meals at the same time each day, chewing your food well, eating slowly, and not overeating. Eating in a relaxed environment and taking a short rest after your main meal will also help – although its better to take a gentle stroll after lunch of you feel irritable or stressed.

What to eat

Chinese medicine tells us to ditch the salads in favour of soup in the cold Winter months. Now that Spring has arrived, its okay to reintroduce raw foods in small amounts – but only on the warmer days.

If you’ve had a busy Winter and feel hot at night, then focus on wet foods like fruit, salads, steamed and boiled foods, soups and stews. Avoid dry and pre-preared foods like baked and fried goodies, cakes and biscuits.

If you feel dizzy when you stand up, have dry eyes or see ‘floaters’ in your field of vision, its time to increase your protein intake. Liver will be particularly beneficial. If offal’s not your thing, opt for eggs, chicken, pork, beaf and more leafy greens than you can shake a stick at.
